SOUTH EL MONTE -- Serena Duenas of Alhambra High School and Dustin Vu of Schurr High School won their Almont League cross country championship race with a first place finish which also helped lead their teams to Almont League team championship at Lake Legg park on Nov. 1, 2017.
Alhambra won the girls varsity Almont League championship with 31 points (lowest score wins), Schurr was second with 44 points, San Gabriel was fifth with 126 points and Mark Keppel was sixth with 133 points.
Local teams earned eight of the top 10 finishes in girls varsity race. Duenas won with a time of 18:32 and was followed by Marai Atanacio of Schurr in 18:57 with her teammate Liz Cano third in 19:15, then three runners from Alhambra, Dasani Zavala fourth in 19:25, Alyssa Romero in sixth in 19:58, and Paloma Sanchez in seventh in 19:59, Mark Keppel's Joanne Chiu in eighth in 20:08, and Schurr's Grace Cervantes in ninth in 20:13.
In boys varsity race, Schurr won with 35 points, San Gabriel was second with 57 points, Alhambra was fourth with 96 points, and Mark Keppel was sixth with 153 points.
Vu won the boys varsity race in 16:23, and was followed by Carrillo-Gallegos of San Gabriel in 16:34 in second, Dillon Garcia of Mark Keppel in 16:41 in third, Ozrael Escobar of Schurr in 16:47 in fourth, Mitchell Saisho of Schurr in 16:52 in fifth, Dustin Chan of Alhambra in 17:02 in seventh, Dylan Chen of Alhambra in 17:07 in eighth, Kevin Tang of San Gabriel in 17:10 in ninth, and Jonathon Perez of Schurr in17:13 in tenth.
