Obituary: Services for Richard Klutts, Optimist Leader

Funeral Services were held recently for Richard D. Klutts, long-time leader of the Eastside Optimist Club of Monterey Park. Klutts grew up in East Los Angeles, attended Kern Jr. High, Garfield High School, ELAC and graduated from Cal State L.A.

He served in the U.S. Army and taught P.E. at Griffith Middle School for 37 years. In 2000, the gymnasium was dedicated in Mr. Klutts’ name for his many years of service to the students and the community. Richard was president and a member of the Eastside Optimist Club of Monterey Park and a member of the East Whittier United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; his daughters, Sandra and Samantha; son-in-law Michael Gaughan and five grand children.

A celebration of his life was held Sunday, August 27, at the East Whittier United Methodist Church.
