Juniper Serra Statue Vandalized

SAN GABRIEL, CA – A statue of Junipero Serra located in front of the San Gabriel Mission Church was reported vandalized with red paint on Nov. 3.

San Gabriel Police officers responded to the location and discovered that an unknown suspect had vandalized the Junipero Serra statue with red paint.
Surveillance video revealed an unknown suspect (possibly a male) approximately 5’07”, 130-140 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, dark colored gloves climbed on the statue and began to saw the neck area using what appeared to be an electric reciprocating saw. With no success, the suspect then poured red colored paint on the chest area of the statue.
