Residents of the city can join the City of Monterey Park, Monterey Park Environmental Commission, and Bike San Gabriel Valley on a family-friendly community bike ride in celebration of Earth Day, Saturday, April 22.
The ride is free but pre-registration is recommended participants can sign up via the Eventbrite. Those registering in advance will be entered into a raffle. Registration will also be taken at the morning of the event.
There will be a number of information booths and sponsored vendor booths on the front lawn at city hall, 320 West Newmark Ave.
Activities begin with onsite registration between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. At 8 a.m. a Hill Challenge ride will begin for those wishing to climb Monterey Park’s steepest hills. The riders will participate in a self-guided trek with the route well marked.
AT 9 a.m. an 8-mile Family Friendly Ride will begin at the library parking lot and travel along the city’s tame residential streets. The ride will be guided by marshals and escorted by police vehicles. A map will be distributed in advance and at the event.
For the safety of all participants, there are a few rules established by the sponsors. They are:
-No training wheels.
-Pets are welcome to join but you will be responsible for taking care of them. Please keep dogs on a leash.
-Participants 17 years old or younger must wear a helmet. Children are to be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian.
-Drink plenty of water the night before and also remember to bring a water bottle to the ride.
-Eat a light breakfast on the day of the ride.
-BikeSGV will have sunscreen and water.
Free parking will be available at Barnes Park, City Hall, the city library and neighboring streets.
