Fleur De Lys Patisseri has opened at a key location at 440 South Atlantic Blvd, at the corner of Harding Avenue. In addition to a variety of tasty French pastries and cakes, the Fleur De Lys offers coffees to tempt coffee drinkers. Customers can sit inside the bakery or outside in a small patio on the east side of the building. Owner-developer-baker Lysa Grigorian is excited about her new business and the adventure she took on when they remodeled the landmark location. The building is located on a small island of land just north of the Monterey Park Mall. The familiar Spanish-style building has served as a real estate, beauty salon and a variety of retail businesses. As they remodeled to convert it to a bakery, the owner found some of the walls were made of commercial adobe. She estimates the original structure was built in the 1930s, about the same time as the El Encanto building. The exterior has been re-landscaped in good taste, matching the several redeveloped commercial areas on South Atlantic Avenue, including the recently opened Monterey Park Mall. Ms. Grigorian is a graduate of the Cordon Bleu in Pasadena. Robert Rideout, manager and baker also graduated from the same bakery institute and met Ms. Grigorian while attending classes. Fleur De Lys Patisserie is open Saturday and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed Mondays.
