Michael Bathan, a library technician at Monterey Park’s Library was name as the employee of the month. He received his “atta boy” for up dating the computers in the Circulation Counter and saving the library money.
THE GLEE CLUB at Rosemead’s Encinita Elementary School had a concert for the school’s Founder’s Day Program. It was captured on video and posted on You Tube. To see the segments of the concert go to Youtube.com, and look for “Encinita School.”
UPCOMING YOUTH SUMMIT is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 25, at Garvey Intermediate School, 2710 Jackson St., Rosemead. The summit is open to all teens and offers an exciting day of learning about many things, without adults being around.
RETIREMENT BLUES:  Tom Johnson and Brian Dowling have retired at Monterey Park city. Tom and Brian were both part of the Economic Development Department at the city hall and were highly valued employees and managers.
LAMP OPTIMIST will have their annual “oratorical contest” or speech contest this March. Contest is open to anyone under 18 years of age. For details about the speech contest contact Dave at (626) 572-7450.
KEPPEL STUDENT DEREK ING was the winner of the Monterey Park Lion’s Club annual speech contest. Derek will go on to the zone competition next. If he makes to the finals, he’ll be competing for big scholarships.
THE YMCA serving the West Can Gabriel Valley will be celebrating it’s 100 anniversary on a dinner scheduled February 17 at Almansor Court. For information contact Stephanie Kou at (626) 576-0226.
