Funeral services a pending for Marcella Calderon, former board member for the Montebello Unified School District. She passed away January 1, 2012.

Mrs. Calderon was the wife of former Assemblyman Tom Calderon.

Tom Calderon issued a statement following her death on Monday, Jan 2. It stated: "Last night, my wife Marcella Calderon passed away after a long and courages battle with cancer. Marcella will be remembered as a committed community leader, relentless advocate for education and a loving wife and mother. Our family would llike to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes. We are making arrangements for a public celebration of life to be held next week. Details will be forecoming."

Marcella Calderon was the first Latina to serve as Montebello Unified School District Board President. She was active for many years as a parent and later as a board member.

She lived in Montebelo and is survived by her husband, Tom, and their two children, Cameron and Victoria.
