Dr. Matthew Lin a Republican and Edwin Chau, A Democrat, are leading the race for most public activity.

Lin, an orthopedic surgeon and developer, has opened a campaign headquarters, and has a press agent announcing a growing list of endorsers.

His latest coo was an endorsement from all five San Gabriel council members, two of them are Republican, two are Democrats and one is a Libertarian.

San Gabriel is a new city in the 49th Assembly District and has been represented in the legislature by Republicans.

At the same time, Chau, a Montebello school board member, has been endorsed by the 49th Assembly District Democrats at a caucus held at Monterey Park city hall. With strong support from Congresswoman Judy Chu and her husband, Assemblyman Eng, Chau easily defeated Alhambra Mayor Luis Ayala for the endorsement.

Also a strong candidate is Monterey Park Mayor Pro-tem Mitchell Ing, a Democrat. Reportedly, Ing has been working in the background raising funds and collecting endorsements, having served as an elected official for more than ten years.

El Monte school board member is reportedly pulling out of the Assembly race after pleading guilty to bribery charges originating from when he was on the Rosemead city council.

Filing by candidates is still continuing with the county clerk.
