Arroyo, which has hundreds more students than other Mission Valley League schools, swept the Mission Valley League Cross Country Championships as expected at Lake Legg park on Oct. 31, 2017 with Rosemead finishing in second place in both boys and girls races.
In the varsity boys championship race, Arroyo won with 22 points (lowest score wins), Rosemead was second with 63 points, Gabrielino was third with 80 points and South El Monte finished fifth with 124 points.
Rosemead had three finishers in the top 10 places. Alec Nguyen was third in 15:47, Tommy Ly was fourth in 15:50, and Thomas Woo was ninth in 16:35. Gabrielino's Stepfan Ng was seventh in 16:26.
In the girls varsity race, Arroyo won with 27 points, Rosemead was second with 55 points, South El Monte was third with 74 points and Gabrielino was fourth with 115 points.
Two local runners finished in the top 10 in varsity girls race. Rosemead's Melanie Mach was fifth in 19:18 and Cassandra Chin was ninth in 19:36.
